There's a plethora of Indian websites out there, travel sites, online shopping stores, online presence of physical stores, vertical portals on money, health, fashion etc.
Looking at these high quality portals with high amount of traffic, I wondered who owned these.
My research began.....
My research began.....
Media conglomerates and Business houses like Reliance, future group, Network18 group seem to be on the forefront. It is quite exciting to see how these Indian companies are exploring the online market with a strong support system of the traditional media in the background.
With a great tag line to go, "Enable, Enlighten, Entertain", Network18 is leading the television, print, internet, entertainment, mobile content domains. Network18 with its effective collaboration with international and Indian names like CNN and Dainik Jagran has proved that it has content for every audience.
Joint venture with Viacom (owner of channels like MTV, VH1), created Viacom 18. Viacom18 recently launched a new Hindi channel called "Colors”, to spike its TRPs (television rating points) it airs shows like “fear factor", BigBoss 2 etc which have gained tremendous popularity. Interestingly tying in traditional media with online media, uncensored versions of BigBoss 2 are hosted on in.com, driving traffic to the newly launched portal and also satiating the viewer's curiosity.
In.com is a horizontal portal which has all the services bundled into one: mail, music, videos, news etc. So Web18 is headed for a direct competition with already existing portals like Rediff, Indiatimes, Sify, Yahoo India etc.
Talking of web properties owned by Network 18,Web18 (Web subsidiary of Network18) has vertical properties spanning across online shopping, finance, travel, sports, jobs ,entertainment etc, capturing the online market in a very short period of time.
Kudos to Raghav bahl for spearheading a full spectrum Media conglomerate and helping India surge ahead in the global markets.
